Students can register to vote in two places at once, reflecting the fact they can often split their times between two places.
However, in the Labour Party students have to choose between registering in their home or term time Constituency Labour Party.
This means for a significant part of the year Labour Party members who are students will be effectively disengaged from local Labour Party activism, unable to select local candidates or receive information about how to get involved with their so-called local party campaigns.
Dual CLP Membership would allow student-rate-paying members to be members of a primary CLP and a secondary CLP. This would mean that regardless of your location as a student, whether it’s at home or at university, students will be able to engage with their local CLP.
It’s time the Labour Party stopped just talking about how important students are to them. It’s time that the Labour Party changed the rules to show they value student members. It’s time that the Labour Party backed our campaign and introduced Dual CLP Membership for students.
Our Campaign for Dual CLP Membership has been talked about in the news and on podcasts. If you want to learn more about our campaign, we urge you to have a read or listen about us.
