Change happens when people stand together, act collectively, and demand that change occurs. That’s why we need your help to put the Dual Membership debate on the Conference floor. On this page we have a model motion ideas that you can take to your local Labour Party, Trade Union or Affiliate branch. We also have a model Constitutional Amendment that your CLP, Trade Union or Affiliate Branch can submit to Conference.
Get in touch if you need any help about how to pass the motion using the contacts at the bottom of the page and let us know, using the link below once you’ve passed the motion!
If your CLP has a "delegate" structure (each branch sends delegates to meetings of a General Committee), resolutions must first be passed by a local branch, and then submitted for discussion at the GC. Submit your resolution to your local branch secretary in time for it to be included on the agenda for the next meeting. When the motion is passed by the branch, you can request that it is sent to the GC for discussion.
Many CLPs, particularly in rural areas, have an "all-member" structure, in which all local members are invited to attend CLP meetings. Some of these require motions to be submitted by a branch, but in many CLPs, a motion may be submitted by any member. Submit the motion to your CLP Secretary in time for it to be included on the agenda.
Find in the link below our recommended model motion, as well as an explainer for you to distribute at your branch or CLP meeting.
In order to get Dual Membership into the Labour Party rulebook, we need to pass a constitutional amendment at Conference. Our target is to get this on the Conference floor in 2023, but if you want to get ahead of the curve and try and send Dual Membership to Conference 2022 in Liverpool, that’s great! Find below our model constitutional amendment that can be submitted to Conference.
Use the button below if you have managed to successfully passed our model motion and, even better, if your CLP, Trade Union or Affiliate branch has chosen to send our model motion to party conference.
